John Mogg

John F Mogg is Director General of the Internal Market and Financial Services Directorate of the European Commission. John has held his present position of Director General of Internal Market and Financial Services since May 1993. Before that he was Deputy Director General in the Internal Market and Industrial Affairs Directorate General from 1990. Between 1989 and 1990, he was Deputy Head of the European Secretariat in the United Kingdom Cabinet Office. Prior to that he held a number of senior positions within various United Kingdom Departments: these included Under Secretary in the Department of Trade and Industry and Principal Private Secretary to three Secretaries of State. From 1979 to 1982 he was the First Secretary at the United Kingdom Permanent Representation in Brussels. Mr Mogg's early career was spent in British industry with the Rediffusion group.

Michael Lipper

President, Lipper Consulting Services Inc. Michael founded Lipper Analytical Services in 1973 and sold it to Reuters Group plc in 1998. Lipper's is a household name in financial services, and is synonymous with the analysis and measurement of mutual funds, both in America and worldwide. Lippers provides performance analysis of SEC and non-SEC funds around the world, fee and expense analysis and portfolio analysis.

After graduating from Columbia College in 1957, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1960, Mike left active duty as a Communications Officer/Combat Cargo Officer to embark on his professional career as a securities analyst. From 1993-1994, he served as President of the New York Society of Security Analysts. He was, for many years, the chairman of the Investment Strategy Forum/Portfolio Management Committee. He has been a Regional Director of the Financial Analysts Federation and is currently Director of the International Society of Financial Analysts. Mike is also a Past Chairman of the Specialty Firms Advisory Committee to the New York Stock Exchange Board of Directors.

 

Clive Woodward

Former Lions' centre Clive Woodward took over from Jack Rowell as England coach in the autumn of 1997. Throughout his rugby career Clive earned 21 caps for England and was renowned for being able to 'sidestep in a telephone box'. After he retired from international rugby in 1984 Clive spent a few seasons playing in Australia before he returned to England and threw himself into coaching. Clive also owns a leasing company in the UK.
 

Peter D. Sutherland

SC, Chairman and Managing Director of Goldman Sachs International. Peter has been Chairman and Managing Director of Goldman Sachs International since 1995. He is also non-executive Chairman of BP Amoco p.l.c. and from 1997 was non-executive Chairman of The British Petroleum Company p.l.c.. He was educated at University College Dublin and the King's Inns. Peter graduated in Civil Law. He was also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America. From 1969 to 1981 he practised at the Bar. Peter currently serves on the Board of Directors of: Investor AB, ABB Ltd, Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson and is associated with the following organisations: World Economic Forum - Foundation Board Member, Overseas Development Council - Chairman, The Council on Foreign Relations (USA) - Director, The European Institute (USA) - Director, Action Committee for Europe - member, The Conference Board - member of the Board of Trustees. Prior to his current position, Peter served as: Attorney General of Ireland (1981-1984), EC Commissioner responsible for Competition Policy (1985-1989), Chairman of Allied Irish Banks (1989-1993), Director General of The World Trade Organisation, formerly GATT (1993-1995). He has received eleven honorary doctorates from universities in Europe and America. He has several publications and numerous articles in law journals. He chaired the Committee that reported to the EEC Commission on the functioning of the Internal Market after 1992 (The Sutherland Report).

 

Anton Botha

CEO, Genbel Securities Limited (South Africa) Anton is Chief Executive Officer of this South African based financial services group. He is also the chairman of Gensec Bank; one of South Africa's leading investment banks and the chairman of Gensec Asset Management pty, which is the second largest manager of assets in South Africa.

Aidan Brady

Chief Executive Citibank Ireland Aidan joined Citibank in Dublin in 1985 having started his career in financial services with ICC Bank in 1980. He has a B Comm from University College Dublin, spent five years with KPMG in Dublin and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1980. His career in Citibank Dublin has involved him managing its derivatives and financial engineering business, and heading its Treasury and Corporate Bank. He was appointed Chief Executive in 1992. He was appointed Market Manager for Ireland and the UK Channel Islands in 1996. He is Citigroup's Country Corporate Officer for its activities in Ireland, is Chief Executive of Citibank in Ireland and Market Manager for Citibank in Ireland and UK Offshore region. Aidan is on the Executive Committees of the Financial Services Industry Association and the Irish Banker's Federation and is Chairman of the Federation of International and Commercial Banks in Ireland. He is also on the board of the US Chamber of Commerce.

Andrea Bressani

CEO, Fundsworld Andrea is an engineer with a masters in finance and experience as a venture capitalist in London. In 1994 he began in McKinsey where he worked successfully in corporate finance and on e-finance projects before becoming the delegated administrator of FundsWorld.

Peter Brooks

Head of HR, Citibank Peter joined Citibank in London in 1987 as senior generalist for the Operations & Technology Group. He subsequently worked for the Private Bank and the Consumer Bank in similar roles. In 1994 he moved to Seoul, South Korea as the Country HR Officer. In Korea, Citibank employed around 600 employees in Corporate and Consumer Banking. Prior to Citibank Peter held a variety of HR posts with Rank Xerox in the UK.

Alain Carron

Director, Standard & Poor's Alain works in the European Structured Finance Department, Paris. He has a geographic responsibility for Structured Finance activity over Continental Europe and co-manages the Covered Bond product. Since joining S&P in 1994, he has been involved in structured finance transactions covering a variety of asset classes, including residential and commercial mortgage securitisations, synthetics, ABS and future flows. Prior to working with S&P, he had held various positions with the consumer finance arm of the Paribas group. Alain holds an engineering degree from Ecole Nationale Superieure de Techniques Avancees and an MBA from Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris.

Michael Cullen

CEO, Investec Gandon Michael completed his Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business Studies in University College Dublin. On graduating, Michael joined PwC and successfully completed his training as a chartered accountant (ACA). In 1978 he joined ICC, Ireland's development bank and spent a total of six years in both the banking and treasury divisions. Michael then joined Citibank N.A. and worked in the investment banking unit, ultimately becoming Vice President responsible for the customer unit. Michael joined Gandon at its foundation in 1987, becoming chief executive in September 1990. In 1995 following the acquisition of Gandon by Woodchester Michael became Treasurer and a director of the enlarged group. Following the acquisition of Gandon by the Investec Group in early 2000 Michael continues as Chief Executive and is currently a member of the management forum of Investec Bank (UK) Limited.

Caroline Devlin

Partner, Arthur Cox. Caroline specialises in corporate tax, aircraft and equipment leasing and securitisations. She is a member of the institute of taxation in Ireland, the law society of Ireland taxation committee and a representative of the law society on Taxation Administration Liaison Committee. Caroline holds a BCL from University College Dublin and was admitted as a solicitor in 1986.

Michael D'Souza

Managing Director and CEO, Merrill Lynch Capital Markets Bank Ltd. Michael is responsible for all aspects of the firm's activity in Ireland including derivative trading, debt sales, asset finance and relating administrative/support functions. Prior to this he worked in the United States and Canada where he held a number of positions within investment banking, derivatives and asset management.

Andrew Edwards

CB Andrew was formerly a Deputy Secretary to the Treasury in London. Since leaving the Treasury in 1995, he has conducted Reviews of Financial Regulation in the Crown Dependencies, Finance Ministries and public sector reform in many countries, HM Land Registry and the British Museum as well as giving many lectures on financial, company and trust regulation, combating financial crime, international tax co-operation and public sector reform. He was also a member of the Financial Issues Advisory Group for the Scottish Parliament and Professional Adviser to the Greenbury Committee on Directors' remuneration.

Chris Evans

Managing Director, Prudential Europe From a background in dairy farming, Chris joined the Prudential Group in 1981, where he managed a number of operations within the IFA distribution division, Prudential Holborn. From Senior Broker Consultant in the City of London, through various regional postings, to becoming Managing Director in 1993. Lured to the East by Prudential Corporation Asia in 1995, Chris became Managing Director of Prudential TS Life, their Thai acquisition just in time to experience the turmoil of the economic crisis there. He emerged in good shape with many lessons learned and is now managing the creation of Prudential's new operating division for Europe.

Steven L. Fradkin

Group Head International Group and Global Fund Services Practice, Senior Vice President Northern Trust - Chicago Steven is responsible for the strategy, business development, and on-going support for Northern Trust's clients outside the United States and investment managers worldwide as provided from offices in Toronto, Montreal, London, Dublin, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York and Chicago. Steven is a fellow of Harvard Business School, PMD and holds a B.A. degree in economics from Washington University. He is Chairman of the Board The Northern Trust Company, Canada and is a member of the Executive Committee, ADL Greater Chicago/Upper Midwest Regional Board.

Philip Galvin

Partner, Ernst & Young Ireland Philip is Head of the Executive Search and Selection and HR Advisory Services Group. Philip has held several executive positions in industry including group personnel manager, chief operations manager and managing director of a number of large national and multi-national organisations. He has been responsible for organisational change management training for E&Y teams undertaking key projects. Philip is a fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development , FIITD, MMII, MIMC, and MCMRA. He is the author of the International Banking and Financial Services Remuneration Guide and of the Inward Investors Guide.

Nikolaus Giesbert

Head of Primary Trading, Frankfurt, Commerzbank Securities Nikolaus joined Commerzbank Securities in spring 2000 to head up Primary Trading and manage Syndicate for Debt Capital Markets in Frankfurt. Prior to this appointment, he was Director of Origination for Corporate Bonds and Jumbo Pfandbriefe at HSBC Markets and, in this role, his main area of responsibility was Interest Rate trading with worldwide responsibility for European Fixed Income Products and Derivative trading. Giesbert gained experience at Dresdner Bank in primary and secondary trading before moving to HSBC Markets in 1996. Giesbert joined Dresdner Bank in 1987 from Frankfurt University.

Joan Kehoe

Managing Director of PFPC International Limited(PFPC) Joan has been employed by the Company since 1993. She has over 15 years experience in the Funds Industry. Prior to joining PFPC she was employed as Head of Unit Trust Administration with Morgan Grenfell (Ireland) Limited a position she held from 1991. Her initial experience was gained with the Investment Bank of Ireland where she held various positions during her six years with the company.

Stephen Lalor

Senior Consultant, Watson Wyatt's Human Capital Group Stephen is a senior consultant with Watson Wyatt's Human Capital Group. He joined the firm in 2000 having worked for over 20 years in benefits and compensation consulting. A qualified barrister, he has extensive experience in reward design and employee share ownership. He also participates in several professional and advisory bodies and has written and lectured on relevant topics.

Brendan Logue

Head of Financial Services Division, IDA Ireland He joined IDA Ireland 11 years ago where his main focus has been selling and marketing Ireland to overseas companies.

Ciaran McGettrick

Head of Country, Prudential Ireland Ciaran joined Prudential Europe (previously Scottish Amicable) in 1995 as Financial Controller and was appointed Head of Country in Ireland in 2000. He has held senior positions in the Irish financial services industry specifically in the life insurance and banking sectors. He was previously President of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants in Ireland and has a wide network of industry contacts.

Paul McGowan

Partner, KPMG Paul is a business studies graduate from Trinity College Dublin and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. He specialises in international taxation of financial services. He has lectured extensively in Ireland and overseas on international taxation matters and has contributed to numerous taxation publications. Paul is chairman of KPMG Ireland's Tax Practice. Paul is a member of a Working Group established by the Irish Prime Minister to advise on the development of the Mutual Funds Industry in Ireland and is currently Chairman of the Dublin Funds Industry Association.

Dan McLaughlin

Chief Economist, ABN AMRO Dan obtained his Masters Degree in Economics from Birkbeck College London, before going on to complete a PH.D at Queen Mary College, where he developed a model of the Irish economy. He worked in the City of London in the 1980's, latterly as a Senior Economist for the Midland Bank (now HSBC), before returning to Ireland to take up the post of chief economist at Riada Stockbrokers, now ABN AMRO Stockbrokers. He has written extensively on economic and financial issues and is a well-known commentator on the Irish economy.

Paul McNaughton

Director and Chief Executive, Deutsche International (Ireland) Limited Paul has been Director and Chief Executive since 1991 of Deutsche International (Ireland) Limited. Prior to joining Deutsche Morgan Grenfell (Ireland) Limited, Paul held several senior management positions including general manager of IFSC operations with the Investment Bank of Ireland from 1987 to 1991. He is the Founder Chairman and current Council Member of the Dublin Funds Industry Association and a Member of the Irish Government Funds Consultative Group since inception and a Council Member of the Financial Services Industry Association.

John Moran

Managing Director, Zurich Capital Markets John is a member of the board of Zurich Capital Markets Company (ZCM), as well as being part of the European marketing team, covering primarily Ireland and the UK. Between 1994 and 1997, prior to joining ZCM, he was responsible for the New York office of the Irish law firm of McCann Fitzgerald and specialised in the provision of advice on international and Irish taxation, financial leasing and banking law. From 1990 to 1994, he acted as Vice President, Legal at the aircraft leasing companies of GPA Group and GE Capital Aviation Services Ltd. Before this he worked as a tax associate at the New York law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell. He graduated from University College Dublin with a first class honours civil law degree. He also holds a Masters Degree of law from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently he is studying for a MSc in financial mathematics at Dublin City University. He is admitted to the New York Bar and is qualified solicitor in Ireland. John is a member of the Institute of Taxation of Ireland, chairman of the Swiss Irish Business Association and vice chairman of the IBF steering committee on eCommerce.

Aengus Murphy

Chairman of FTI FTI is a treasury consulting firm and is the only independent specialist treasury management company in Dublin's IFSC. Previous to setting up FTI in 1988, Aengus was Treasury Manager with ESB, Ireland's main energy company. Now with FTI he advises the firm's larger and more complex clients on strategic finance and treasury matters. As one of Ireland's leading corporate treasury specialists, Aengus was one of the three 'founding fathers' of the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers and its Chairman in 1989. He is a Fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers in the UK. Aengus has university qualifications in finance and public administration.

Cormac Murphy

Partner, Arthur Andersen Cormac is a partner in the Audit and Business Advisory practice of Arthur Andersen in Ireland. He holds a first class Bachelor of Commerce and a diploma in professional accounting from UCD, and is a chartered accountant. Cormac is also a qualified member of the UK Association of Corporate Treasurers. Cormac has audit responsibility for clients operating in the banking, leasing, asset management, insurance and captive treasury areas. He has also completed many risk consulting assignments. He has spoken publicly on treasury, business risk management and EMU matters, and has published a number of articles on these topics.

Kathleen S. O'Brien

National Bank Examiner/Sr. International Advisor Comptroller of the Currency, Washington, DC Kathi is currently responsible for the oversight of federally licensed branches in the U.S. from EU countries. She was formerly a member of the Joint Forum's Task Force on Mapping Financial Conglomerates, coordinator for all Joint Forum documents and briefings for the Comptroller and Senior Deputy Comptroller for International Affairs from 1995-1999, and an instructor at the Joint Vienna Institute on licensing and bank supervision issues. Kathi served as a Technical Advisor regarding licensing issues on new bank charters, changes in bank control and mergers to the National Bank of Slovakia. Prior positions included several years in the OCC's licensing and early warning divisions and as a field examiner in the Mid-Atlantic states. Joined the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department, responsible for examination of national banks and federal branches and agencies in 1974 and commissioned a National Bank Examiner in1978. Kathi is a graduate of the State University of New York College at Brockport with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

Dr. Ronan O'Connor

Lecturer, Smurfit Business School, UCD Ronan is an actuary and holds a PhD in actuarial science. He has been head of investment research at Irish Life plc, associate director at Ulster Development Bank, vice president at Citibank N.A., managing director of Citicorp Scrimgeour and a founding director of Gandon Securities. He is currently a lecturer in the department of banking and finance, UCD.

Noel O'Gorman

Second Secretary General, the Department of Finance Noel has been involved in several projects and is a member of the EU Monetary Committee 1994-98; Ireland's EU Presidency, 1996 and is a current member of EU Economic and Financial Committee. Noel joined the Department of Finance as an economist in 1970 and held several positions until he became the Second Secretary, finance division in 1994. Educated in both of the University Colleges of Cork and Dublin, Noel received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Politics and a Masters Degree in Econometrics.

Peter O'Dwyer

CEO, Gensec Ireland Peter is responsible for the international asset management and investment activities of the Group in Ireland. Peter has been involved with the financial services centre since its inception and has advised many of the companies that have established there. He has written and spoken widely on international financial services and fund management in particular.

Dermot Quigley

Chairman of the Revenue Commissioners Dermot was educated at University College Dublin from which he received a BA and a Diploma in Public Administration. He also has a Diploma in financial analysis and policy from the IMF. Dermot began his career as an administrative officer in the Department of Finance in 1965. He served as assistant principal and principal officer in various sections dealing with domestic, E.C. and international financial matters. He worked on Ireland's entry to EMS in 1979. In 1985 he was appointed assistant secretary for Borrowing and Debt Management and a Director of Irish Telecommunications Investments Ltd.. Dermot served as as an assistant secretary in charge of Budgetary and Taxation matters in the Department of Finance from 1988 to 1990, when he was promoted to the post of Revenue Commissioner in October 1990. He was appointed Chairman of the Revenue Commissioners in July 1998.

Philip E. Smith

Director of Deutsche Bank International (Ireland) Limited Philip is also Chairman of Deutsche Bank International Limited, Group Chief Executive of Deutsche Bank Offshore Group (which has principal offices in Dublin, Jersey, Guernsey, Grand Cayman, Amsterdam and Mauritius) and he is the Global Head of Fiduciary Services Deutsche Bank Group. Philip is as he says a life server with Morgan Grenfell & Co Limited which was taken over by Deutsche Bank in 1989.

Deirdre Somers

Listing Policy Manager, Irish Stock Exchange Deirdre is responsible for the development of listing policy for all products listed by the Exchange. And the management of structured products and company listing departments. Deirdre began her career with KPMG in 1987 in the corporate tax department. Between 1992 and 1995 she was a manager of the financial services department specialising in international tax, IFSC set-ups and structured finance. Deirdre now has had responsibility for developing, codifying and promoting listing regimes for investment funds and various types of specialist securities. She is currently involved in the development and promotion of the new technology market of the Irish Stock Exchange. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from University College Cork. She is also a chartered accountant.

Michael Taylor

Senior Economist, The International Monetary Fund Michael currently works on systemic banking and bank restructuring issues. He was formerly a noted commentator on the British regulatory scene, contributing regularly to publications like the Financial Times Financial Regulation Report and to the Financial Regulator, which he also edited. His paper for the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation 'Twin Peaks: A regulatory structure for the new century' (1995) sparked a wide ranging debate in both the UK and elsewhere on reform of the organisational structure of financial regulation. He has also worked on banking supervisory policy at the Bank of England, and has held a number of academic appointments at leading British universities. A visiting Professorial Fellow at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies in London, he has published widely in both academic and professional journals. His most recent book is Blackstone's Guide to the Financial Services and Markets Act (2000) (with Michael Blair et al).

Enda Twomey

Chairman of the joint IBF/IMSA Irish Pfandbriefe Committees Enda was admitted as a solicitor in 1988 having obtained a BCL from University College Cork in 1984. He obtained an MBS in finance from the Smurfit Business School in UCD in 1997. He worked in Manufacturers Hanover Ltd. from 1989 to 1991, the National Treasury Management Agency from 1991 to 1997, William Fry Solicitors from 1997 to 1999 and he joined the Irish Bankers' Federation (IBF) as the Senior Executive in 1999. He is the Chairman of the joint IBF/IMSA Irish Pfandbriefe Committee. His other principal duties in the IBF include dealing with banking supervision, financial markets, legal, e-commerce, IFSC and compliance matters. He sits on various European Banking Federation Committees and Working Groups, Committees of the Law Society of Ireland and is a member of the Company Law Review Group.

Rick Wills

Managing Director, Northern Trust (Ireland) Ltd. Rick is responsible for all activities within the subsidiary, which include strategy, business development, client services, and operations. Prior to assuming his current role, Rick was Division Head of Northern Trust's Investment Manager Liaison Group, where he was responsible for services provided to North American-based investment managers for both domestic and global clients. Before joining Northern Trust, Rick was a vice president and head of Corporate Operations for Lake Shore Bancorp. He managed all trust, banking, and cash management operations for the U.S. $1.2 billion Chicago-based bank holding company. He has also has held various management positions within trust operations with Continental Bank. Rick holds an M.B.A. degree in portfolio management from DePaul University and a B.S. degree in finance from the University of Illinois. He is also Chairman, Board of Trustees for Northern Trust Ireland Pension.

Ron Bolger

Former Chairman of the Financial Services Industry Association Ron is a leading consultant to Irish business, specialising in the financial services and telecoms industries. He is a member of the Taoiseach's advisory committee on the IFSC. He is a former managing partner of KPMG Ireland where he specialised in taxation and took a leading role in the development of the IFSC in Dublin. He is a director of EBS Building Society. He also holds a number of directorships in newly established Internet/e-commerce companies and is a former chairman of Telecom Eireann (now Eircom).

Pat Kenny

Managing Partner of Deloitte & Touche Pat began his career in the Revenue Commissioners prior to joining Deloitte & Touche where he specialised in corporate taxation. He has over 20 years experience in assisting multinational companies to locate manufacturing and service operations in Ireland, including a large number of financial services companies. He was Chairman Temple Bar Properties Ltd., a company responsible for urban regeneration in central Dublin, and is a director of one of Ireland's largest financial services companies, Irish Life and Permanent.

Maurice O'Connell

Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Educated at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth and University College, Dublin, he holds a post-graduate degree in Ancient Classics. Maurice OÕConnell joined the Department of Finance in 1962 and worked in all areas of the Department. He also worked for periods in both the Department of the Public Service and the Department of Economic Planning and Development. While working in the Department of Finance, he was a Director of the European Investment Bank and Irish Telecommunications Investments and was a member of the Monetary Committee of the European Community. He was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland on 1st May 1994 for a term of seven years.

WiIliam Slattery

Global Head of Risk Management for the Asset Management Division of Deutsche Bank AG and member of the Group Risk Board of Deutsche Bank William worked for the Central Bank of Ireland for more than twenty years before joining Deutsche Morgan Grenfell (Ireland) in March 1996. From 1985 he held senior positions in the supervision function of tile Bank including responsibility for the supervision of the IFSC. Immediately prior to leaving the Central Bank of Ireland he was Deputy Head of Banking Supervision where he was responsible for the supervision of Irish banks and building societies.

Mary Harney
